Favorite Books for Young Toddlers (12-24 months)

In this age group you can expand on your baby’s first library, by including books with longer sentences and more depth.  Your toddler will be more aware of the world around, and will be interested to learn more each day.  You will likely want to continue to choose board books when practical, to ensure they withstand being dragged, thrown, and chewed on.

Educational
These books focus on key learning concepts, and introduce your toddler to some of the first words they will need to communicate.

Interactive
These books provide for an additional element of interaction to reading, such as a touch and feel texture, objects to count, lift the flap, or special movements.  There are many books in the That’s Not My… series, including animals, transportation, and many more.

Bedtime
While you can read any book before your little one’s bedtime, having a few dedicated books about going to bed helps get your child in the right mindset.  Of course, some of these are better at calming than others!

Dr. Seuss
This is a great age to introduce the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss.  While many books can be too long to hold your toddler’s attention span, there are several which are perfect to start your book collection.

Sandra Boynton
These books are a favorite in many households.  The books are playful, and have a great rhythm which makes them fun to read to toddlers.  You may have noticed a few of her books in the bedtime section as well.

Just for Fun
Given the age, it makes sense that most of the books available involve animals.  However you will find other themes in the list below, including bugs, farm life, and transportation.
