Printing Your PDF File

When you are ready to print, I recommend saving your file again with a new name.  This will allow you to have a copy of the original, as well as the edited version.  To do this, go to File > Save As, and then give your file a new name.

Now that you are ready to print, make sure to check the following print settings:

  • Use the best quality print option
  • Select the correct paper size and paper type
  • Choose the “borderless” option for any full page designs.

Now that your file is printed, you are ready to cut and assemble as needed!  If you are still having an issue with your printed product, check out the tutorials which help address common printing problems.

My Text Is Not Printing

Your printer may be having trouble identifying the text changes in the file.  If the file was originally opened in a program other than Adobe Reader, you should delete the file and download a new copy, as other programs can corrupt the files.  Below are a few other options to ensure your printer will print your edited text.

  • Check to ensure “Markups” is selected.
  • Select the “Print as Image” checkbox

The Printed Colors Are Not As Expected

Printed colors may vary from what is shown on the computer screen, depending on your computer and monitor settings. In addition, the type of paper, ink and printer used can affect how vibrant colors look when printed. Files can be printed on regular computer printer paper, though cardstock or photo paper will produce a better image.

However, there are a few printer settings that can potentially impact the color of your printed files.

  • Ensure you have selected the best quality print settings in the Print Dialog Box.  (See the sample image towards the top of the page.)
  • Ensure you select the correct type of paper in the Print Settings of the Print Dialog Box.  For example, don’t select photo paper if you are printing on cardstock. (See the sample image towards the top of the page.)
  • Select “Advanced” near the printer name. You can then try different options such as Print As Image, or try different combinations under Color Management.

I Need To Print A Different Size

Occasionally you may wish for an item to print out at a different size than intended.  You may change the options in the Print Dialog Box under Page Sizing & Handling.

  • For files that started as 8.5” x 11”, use the “Size” button.  Change the settings under Custom Scale.  For example, 50% will reduce the size of the image by half.
  • For files that started as 16” x 20”, use the “Poster” button before changing the scale. Change the settings under Custom Scale.  50% is a great way to take a 16” x 20” poster and print it at 8” x 10”.

I Do Not Need to Print All the Pages

If your file has more than one page, you can choose to only print the needed pages to avoid waste and unnecessary expense.  Printing normally defaults to “All”.  To change what pages you print, you can select “Current Page” or you could list specific pages for a custom range such as “1-5,12-15,22-23”.
